22nd Conference and General Meeting

The 22nd Annual Conference of the Association of Caribbean Tertiary Institutions Inc. (ACTI) In Association with the Association of Canadian Community Colleges would be held at the RIU Hotel, Ocho Rios in Jamaica from November 14-16, 2012. The Conference Theme is "Strategic Imperatives for the Enhancement of Institutional and Academic Performance".

The Strands from which the theme will be developed are:

1. Accountability and Finance

2. Leadership and Succession Planning

3. Governance

4. Quality Assurance

5. Linking Learning to Work

There will be a Special Launch of Leadership Chair Academy by the CARICOM Education for Employment Program (C-EFE)

21st Conference and General Meeting

ACTI' s 2011 Conference and Annual General Meeting was held on November 9-11, 2011 in Grenada. The theme for the Conference was “Austerity measures and Higher Education: Programmes, Policies, Practices and Student Services”. The Sub-themes were:

Student Services

1. Tertiary Education for the Real World:
  a. Personal and Institutional Financial Fitness.
  b. Meeting Health Challenges: Physical, Psychological, Social and Spiritual Fitness.
  c. Development of Independent Thinkers in a “Cut and Paste” World.
  d. Nurturing the “Inner You” of our Students.

2. Discussion of Health and Equality.
3. Impact of the Social Network Media on Tertiary Education in the Caribbean.

20th Conference and General Meeting

Our 2010 Conference and Annual General Meeting was held on November 17-19, 2010 in Tortola, British Virgin Islands. The theme for the conference was “Developing the Whole Person for a Productive and Prosperous Caribbean Region”. The strands from which the theme were developed are as follows:

I. The Role of Tertiary Education in Shaping Attitudes and Values
II. Tertiary Education: Supporting Youth for Leadership
III. Providing Workforce Options for Caribbean Development

19th Annual ACTI Conference

ACTI 2009 Conference and Annual General Meeting was hosted by the Local Chapter Members in Antigua and Barbuda on November 11-13, 2009

The conference theme was “Innovation in Tertiary Education”. The strands from which the theme was developed are as follows:

I.Learning Environment for the 21st Century.
II. Innovative Financing Strategies for Colleges and Universities in a Shrinking Global Economy.
III. Creative Teaching Strategies: The Caribbean Context.

The conference served as a platform for members and participants to present and discuss on a variety of topics. [View Presentations]

ACTI has over 96 members from 17 countries including seven universities: University of the West Indies, University of Guyana, University of Technology (Jamaica), University of the Virgin Islands, University of St. Maarten, the Anton von Kom University (Suriname), and the University of Belize.
